Celebrities who are bringing the Poncho back – and how!

The Mexican Poncho has been around for a while and has been a favourite among individuals from all generations. Only recently however, has the fashion industry taken a keener interest in this comfortable cover up. The poncho made it’s appearance on the runway in 2011 with designers like BCBG , Altuzarra and Rag & Bone offering up high end versions to the humble poncho. It wasn’t long before celebrities had taken up the trend and it has begun to thrive. The poncho recently featured in Tom Ford’s 2013 Fall Collection, a sign that the poncho has established itself as a style statement.

Kate Hudsons Favorite Louis Vuitton Poncho

Kate Hudson made waves back in 2010 when she showed up at the Tribeca Film Festival in a black and white poncho by Louis Vuitton, over a form fitting little black dress. Since then, she’s often been seen out and about in this stylish striped and zig zag piece, always impeccably coiffed and put together.Lily Allen has also found a favourite in the same design, but unlike Kate, Lily prefers to use to it to cover and protect her baby bump! Sandra Bullock always seems laid back and relaxed without looking shabby. It’s probably the reason why she manages to carry off ponchos with pizzazz. Most often , she rocks a grey poncho, but she has also been seen in printed and tan versions. The resurgence of her career has put a spring in her step and this is reflected in her creative yet practical wardrobe choices, even when she is just taking a walk around town.

Thanks to Claudia Schiffer in her brown striped and belted poncho at London Fashion Week, fashionistas across the world were rummaging in their closets to pull out their long forgotten ponchos. Other supermodels that love rocking a poncho include Heidi Klum and Katie Price.


With so many celebrities taking to ponchos and so many interesting designs featured on runways and in department stores, it’s safe to say the poncho is here to stay. Maybe it’s time to get some authentic mexican poncho.
